I was just thinking about this song yesterday. How timely!

Chuck Berry wrote and first recorded “Sweet Little Sixteen” on Dec. 29-30, 1957. He released it as a single the following month, and it peaked at #2 on the US pop charts and #1 on the R&B charts. Rolling Stone ranked “Sweet Little Sixteen” #272 on their list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

“Sweet Little Sixteen” was a staple of the Beatles’ early live shows. Here’s bootlegged version from “Live at the Star-Club” recorded Dec. 1962 in Hamburg.

The Fab Four only recorded the song once, for “Pop Go the Beatles” on Jul. 10, 1963. This version aired Jul. 23 and appeared on 1994’s “Live at the BBC” compilation.
